Pyromania

Pyromania is a mental health disorder characterized by an obsession with fire and an impulse to deliberately set fires. Individuals with pyromania experience a strong and recurrent urge to ignite fires, often feeling pleasure, excitement, or relief when doing so. This compulsion to set fires is not driven by financial gain, revenge, or political motives, but rather by an intense psychological need or compulsion. Pyromania is relatively rare and can have serious consequences, including property damage, injury, and loss of life.

Psychological counselling provides individuals with the tools, insights, and support they need to overcome pyromania and regain control over their behaviors and lives. By addressing the underlying psychological factors contributing to compulsive fire-setting and teaching effective coping strategies, counselling empowers individuals to break free from the cycle of pyromania and build a healthier future.

Treatment typically involves psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to address underlying psychological factors, identify triggers for fire-setting behavior, and develop alternative coping strategies. In some cases, medication may be prescribed to manage symptoms or underlying mental health conditions.
