Hypersexuality

Hypersexuality, also known as compulsive sexual behavior or sexual addiction, refers to a persistent and intense preoccupation with sexual thoughts, fantasies, urges, or behaviors that significantly interfere with an individual's daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being. It is characterized by an overwhelming and uncontrollable urge to engage in sexual activities, often at the expense of other important areas of life.

Psychological counselling offers a comprehensive and individualized approach to addressing hypersexuality, helping individuals understand the underlying factors contributing to their compulsive sexual behaviors and develop effective strategies for managing and reducing them. By addressing underlying issues, developing coping skills, and promoting healthier attitudes towards sexuality, counselling can empower individuals to regain control over their lives and cultivate more fulfilling and balanced relationships.

Treatment for hypersexuality typically involves a combination of psychotherapy, medication, and support groups. Psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), can help individuals identify and address underlying triggers, develop healthier coping strategies, and learn to manage sexual urges more effectively. Medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), may be prescribed to help reduce obsessive thoughts and impulses associated with hypersexuality
